Welcome to Whitehorse, named the Wilderness City, is nestled on the banks of the famous Yukon River surrounded by mountains and pristine lakes. In 2011, the World Health Organization ranked Whitehorse #1 for cleanest air in the world. Whitehorse got its name when gold seekers thought the Miles Canyon’s wild rapids resembled the manes of charging white horses. This afternoon we’ll pick up our winter clothing rental to use for the duration of our stay. Later, we suggest you do a short orientation walk along the pleasant riverfront pathways, as well the Main Street to get your bearings.
This morning, we head south along the Klondike Highway to the Boréale Ranch. The Ranch offers everything that you will need for both a relaxing and recharging time and your group will have the whole place to yourselves for an exclusive two-night stay. In addition to stylish and comfortable accommodations, delicious food and warm company, this property has an outdoor hot tub spa available for 24 hour use, a Northern Lights viewing platform, bonfire area, a toboggan hill for sledding and snowshoeing trails throughout the property. Good food and drink are an important part of the Boréale stay and traditional northern foods are incorporated into the meals, so guests get the experience of tasting wild cranberries, elk, salmon and Arctic char. There is a network of trails nearby and the afternoon is free for us to use the complimentary snowshoes to explore the area and to possibly snowshoe to a nearby viewpoint for some scenic winter views of the surrounding landscape. In the evening, you can enjoy the night sky from your balcony, the aurora viewing platform, the spa, or by the warm glow of a bonfire. The Northern Lights generally come out after 10 PM. They tend to start glowing in the northern horizon and then gradually appear across the sky in all directions. Even with light cloud cover, it is possible to see the green glow. The lights can be green, red, purple and pink depending on activity.
