Anderson Vacations: Supporting Indigenous Tourism in Canada
Anderson Vacations is dedicated to supporting Indigenous tourism in Canada by offering a variety of local and authentic Indigenous experiences on our tours and itineraries. We believe that by creating opportunities for visitors to learn about and appreciate the traditions of those who have inhabited these lands for thousands of years, we are taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation and fostering a deeper connection to the country we explore.
Our tours provide ample opportunities to engage with Indigenous cultures. For instance, our self-drive journeys through Alberta feature sites like Métis Crossing, a cultural interpretive center built on the original river lots of Métis settlers, where you can learn about Métis history and traditions. We also include destinations such as Elk Island National Park, a place of historical significance for many Indigenous groups, where you can connect with the land and its ancient heritage. Our group tours to Haida Gwaii, an archipelago off the coast of British Columbia, delve into the rich history and vibrant living culture of the Haida people.
In our commitment to sustainable tourism practices and responsible travel, we are proud to announce we are now a reconciliation partner with the Indigenous Tourism Destination Fund (ITDF).
We are thrilled to have this partnership with the ITDF to advance sustainable tourism practices," said Andres Reinoso, General Manager at Anderson Vacations. "This collaboration reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible travel and our dedication to supporting Indigenous communities and reconciliation efforts
What Our Partnership Supports
Through this collaboration, we will donate a portion of our proceeds from every traveler to the ITDF. This support is a tangible step toward acting on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #92, which addresses the corporate sector's role in reconciliation. The call to action urges businesses to build respectful relationships and ensure that Indigenous communities gain lasting economic benefits from activities that take place on their traditional territories.
What the Indigenous Tourism Destination Fund (ITDF) Does
The ITDF was established by the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) to make targeted investments in the Indigenous tourism sector. By supporting this fund, we are helping to:
- Support Economic Development: The ITDF provides investments in infrastructure, human resources, transportation, and business development. This work helps Indigenous communities diversify their economies and create sustainable opportunities for current and future generations.
- Promote Authentic Experiences: The fund aids in the marketing and promotion of authentic, Indigenous-owned and controlled tourism businesses, ensuring visitors have genuine and respectful experiences.
- Advance Reconciliation: Through its work, the ITDF directly contributes to the goals of reconciliation by supporting Indigenous self-determination and economic well-being through tourism.
