Canadians have learned the art of winter and they celebrate it from coast to coast. Festivals in Quebec City, Ottawa, Whitehorse and Winnipeg bring crowds to sculpt ice and race down frozen slides. Some travellers even opt for a night at the Ice Hotel or a homemade igloo in the north (after a lesson on layering!). There are more frequent activities in abundant snow areas such as skiing and snowshoeing in the Rockies, or tapping the maple trees after a day of snowmobiling in Ontario. Perhaps ice skating along the worlds largest skating rink (the Rideau Canel) is a record you and your travel companions are after. Whatever activities you opt for, the sights of waterfalls in the sunlight and mountain ranges seen from the top of a gondola or a heli tour, create perfect photos to frame at home. Winter inspiration is not hard to find when its done right like the Canadians do. After a day in the elements, soaking in an outdoor hotspring or outdoor spa with a glass of Canadian ice wine is the perfect ending...although staring up at those winter Northern Lights might be the icing on the cake!
