The journey Begins

Day 1: Arrive in Saskatoon

Arrive in Saskatoon, pick up your rental car and check into your hotel. Explore the city centre of Saskatoon by foot. There is tremendous variety of craft breweries and boutique restaurants using fresh local ingredients in the city. Saskatchewan is, after all, the breadbasket of Canada and the city’s food creators have infused local ingredients into their menus to create a wide and varied choice. Though located in the centre of Canada you can find spins on Mexican, Burmese, Indian, Thai, and Jamaican food here. While you settle into the city, check out the striking new Remai Modern museum that sits on banks of the South Saskatchewan River with stunning river and open prairie skies views. Spanning four levels, Remai Modern has 11 gallery spaces over three floors, learning studios, a theatre, restaurant, store, lounges, play areas and numerous multi-use spaces. Join an informative guided walk through the gallery arranged through the front desk. Make it a night out indulging in the city’s culinary scene for your first evening in Saskatoon. There are a variety of options. If you’re looking to dress up and splurge, try Carver’s Steakhouse or Cut Casual Steak and Tap. Pub-style restaurants like the Congress Beer House, or Bon Temps Café feature fantastic food in a more casual setting.

Day 2: Exploring Saskatoon highlights

This morning drive to Wanuskewin Heritage Park, a National Historic Site situated on the northern edge of Saskatoon. This Northern Plains Indigenous Interpretive Site is home to over 6,400 years of history and a truly unique cultural experience. The Heritage Park is a window into a part of Canada’s history that remains little known, and a link to the past unlike any other National Historic Site in Canada. Borrow snowshoes from their counter and explore the marked winter trails of Canada’s longest running archaeological dig site with exciting finds many of which pre-date the pyramids of Egypt. See the herd of plains bison that were reintroduced here in December 2019 with the first calves born in spring 2020. Wanuskewin’s uniqueness is based on the composition of human habitation, hunting, gathering and spirituality, all in one place. Wait for dusk to take a drive through BHP Enchanted Forest, Saskatchewan's top winter tourist attraction to see the country's largest outdoor light show featuring 60 custom displays throughout the forest. The BHP Enchanted Forest opens for visitors from late November until January. If you are visiting late January, take a drive to the Farmers Market and check out Saskatchewan’s premiere Winter Festival, the Nutrien WinterShines Festival. See professionally designed ice creations, a super gigantic igloo, sleigh rides, soup cook-off and enjoy a range of winter activities.

Day 3: Enjoy the wide open Prairie skies of Saskatoon

Try skating at the Meewasin skating rink or at one of the city’s many outdoor rinks and ponds. There are over 50 community association operated rinks located in neighbourhoods throughout Saskatoon. Walk or kicksled along the South Saskatchewan River Valley trail. A kicksled is with a piece of equipment made up of two ski style runners attached to a handlebar at about waist height, with a rubberized footrest to keep your balance. They can also have seats for carrying small children. Kicksleds can be rented locally from Escape Sports. Drive to Optimist Hill, a winter recreation area featuring ski and snowboarding sections, terrain park, tubing hill, and a free toboggan hill for families. Later, take a walk around the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo and watch the many animals active in the winter months.

Day 4: Manitou Beach

Often compared to the Dead Sea of Israel, the healing waters of Little Manitou Lake are legendary for their natural buoyancy, mineral-rich properties, and curative powers. Manitou Springs Resort & Mineral Spa is among the top spas in Canada. Located 120 km from Saskatoon in the heart of Canada’s prairies, this European-style spa and hotel is one of its kind in Canada. The scenic winter drive through the prairies to Manitou and back makes for a leisurely day and provides an opportunity to try the excellent resort restaurant.

Tour Questions

Our tours are suitable for all age demographics. The average age of travelers is typically 45+

There are options for single travelers to join most tours. Solo Travelers can choose to pay the single supplement and have their own room throughout the tour. For those willing to share, we also have a Twin Share option that is offered for the majority of our tours. This means you will be sharing the hotel rooms with another single, same gender traveller who also books the Twin Share option. If this is the case, there will be no single supplement charged to either of you. If we are unable to match you with another Twin Share traveler, there may be a single surcharge applied to cover the full cost of the rooms on some of our longer tours. Please enquire before finalizing your booking for full details.

This tour has a low level of physical demand, although there may be some activities or sightseeing tours that require walking short distances. Please inquire if you have any mobility restrictions before completing your booking to ensure this tour is right for you.

Each passenger may bring one large suitcase and one carry-on bag. The weight limit for this suitcase is 32 kilograms/60 pounds. Baggage handling is provided at the hotels in our tour packages. Please advise our reservations staff if you will be bringing additional items such as a cane, walker or wheelchair. You may also bring one small soft-sided carry-on bag, which should easily fit into the overhead shelf of the coach. Each person is responsible for his/her own carryon luggage. Remember to check your airline baggage restrictions if you are flying, as they may differ from Anderson Vacations Tours guidelines.

The suggested allowance for non-included meals is $40.00 — $60.00 CAD per day (includes tipping).

Yes! There are many meals included on our fully escorted tours. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions at the time of booking so we can ensure there are alternative meal choices and arrangements made for you.

For your convenience, gratuities for local guides and meals stated on the itinerary are included in the price of the tour. For meals not included in your tour package please remember that it is customary to tip your server 15-20% in North America. Gratuities for your Motorcoach Driver and Tour Director are left to your discretion. We recommend $4.00 - $5.00 CAD per person, per day for your Motorcoach Driver and $6.00 - $7.00 CAD per person, per day for your Tour Director. if you can't find your
